What is Eyology?
Coined by Dr. Leonard Mehlmauer, “Eyology” is the science and art of observing the markings and colorings in the anterior layers of the eye and their relation to systemic health.  Within Eyology, there are separate disciplines:  Iridology and Sclerology. Iridology involves the observation of the color and structure of the iris, which is the flat, colored, ring shaped anterior structure of the eye, whereas, Sclerology involves observation of markings beyond the periphery of the iris in an area commonly known as the “white’s of the eyes”.

Iridology and Sclerology are not new sciences. According to currently available tests on the subject, forms of Eyology trace back nearly 3,000 years are currently used by practitioners in the alternative health field as well as medical doctors in Europe and Russia to identify area of potential concerns in their patients.

Iridology and Sclerology each present a unique view of the body.  When used in combination, they can provide the interpreter with valuable information regarding a person’s health.  Within Iridology, there are two branches:  Physical and Personality. Within Physical Iridology, analysis of the eye for structure and color will determine genetic predisposition and inherited traits. How can that be helpful?  By allowing insight into those parts of the body that are likely to be most compromised if the system as a whole is challenged.  In other words, Physical Iridology can identify which organ systems are likely to give us the most problems.  However, the irises are not just about the physical body.  There is a whole other world in there, a world of personality which is revealed with Personality Iridology.

Involving examination of the markings found in the whites of the eyes, Sclerology can provide an additional layer of information.  While it, too, can provide information on genetic tendencies, studying the qualities, configuration and location of the vascular markings in this region can also reveal if particular areas of the body are actively under stress.

Sclerology also helps confirm what is seen in the iris, amplifies understanding of the clients presenting complaints, provides valuable information when the iris color (brown) limits Iridology interpretation, and is a great follow up tool to assess how your client is responding to your recommended therapies.

Note:  Valuable information about the body can be obtained from evaluating the anterior layers of the eye.  However, Iridology and Sclerology are NOT diagnostic tools and are unable to identify specific medically defined pathology.

If your clients have current health challenges, Eyology can help target possible root causes.  Once identified, you can implement your own therapeutic measures.  Even if your clients are not faced with health challenges, Iridology and Sclerology can identify areas of potential concern that can be supported by sound nutrition, life-positive lifestyle, and natural methods recommended by you to minimize the risk of future disease.
